On Tuesday, March 5 Governor Gavin Newsom signed Senate Bill (SB) 126 by Senator Connie Leyva (D-Chino) and Assembly Member Patrick O’Donnell (D - District 70), which calls for standardized oversight practices for all California public charter schools.
KIPP LA Public Schools released the following statement from CEO Marcia Aaron in response to SB 126:
We welcome the balanced legislation put forth yesterday in SB 126, which ensures all California public charter schools follow laws promoting transparency and accountability just like all other public schools, while preserving the freedoms afforded to us under the California Charter Schools Act.
Since our inception, KIPP LA has embraced the openness that this bill calls for, and we thank Governor Newsom for his leadership on this important issue. Together, we will continue to champion high-quality education for all students in greater Los Angeles.
