This 'scholar spotlight' series will celebrate our KIPP SoCal alumni on their incredible journey to and through college.

Sergio Oaxaca

Sergio Oaxaca is a KIPP Adelante Preparatory Academy (KAPA) alumni, who is in his second year at San Diego State University majoring in Urban Planning. While at SDSU, Sergio rediscovered his passion for architecture and became determined to follow this career path and has, thus, applied for Fall 2020 transfer to Cal Poly Pomona's architecture program. Sergio is currently waiting for a response and, whether or not he receives a favorable outcome, he is determined to follow his passion. Sergio has created an action plan that will allow him to gain the necessary knowledge and skills to enter the world of architecture. Sergio is seeking an internship in architecture, so he can gain a wider understanding of the field. Additionally, Sergio has found a community at SDSU. Sergio’s church choir director encouraged him to enroll in an opera class to enhance his vocal skills, and unintendedly, Sergio found a community on campus. Sergio has participated in five concerts and performed in front of large audiences. Sergio hopes to continue balancing his pursuit of becoming an architect with participating in opera concerts 🎶🙌🏽

We are so proud of you, and can't wait to see all the great things you'll accomplish! 🎉♥️ #KTC #KIPP #toandthrough
